Yummy or Yucky?

When you think of spiritual disciplines, does it leave a bad taste in your mouth?  Does the thought get you excited  – or make you think of things like having to eat your vegetables, or run 10 miles uphill?

I confess that as much as I long to get closer to God, I don’t always long to be “spiritually disciplined.”  It sounds painful.  But just as I know how good I feel when I’m eating healthy food, I also love how I feel when I’m regularly practicing spiritual disciplines.

How about you?  I’d love to hear how you feel about spiritual disciplines.

Do you love ’em?  Hate e’m?

Which ones do you find the most helpful?

Which ones make you feel like hiding in the closet?

Please take a moment to post your thoughts – I’ll be using them to help me shape future blogs, and hopefully encourage us all to find helpful ways to connect with God.

I often find it hard to slow down, stop looking at my to do-list and surrender to my Maker for a few minutes of togetherness. I always feel pulled back to center when I do surrender. It is extremely difficult to make it a regular practice.

Easy to read and maneuver from place to place.

Getting up in the morning to spend time with God before I start my day is the hardest discipline for me, but when I do, my day is full of wonderful God moments! Why do I keep thinking sleep is more important? Selfishness!

  3. Shari & Arlene – I agree that taking time to actually sit still and simply be with God is so difficult. It amazes me how hard it is, considering how good I feel after being in God’s presence. And Arlene, one thing I’m learning about sleep is that I need to be more disciplined about going to bed earlier, so that I am able to make my morning time with God more of a priority.
